In vacuum interrupters, alumina ceramic is often used to create the outer casing or tube that houses

the internal components of the interrupter. This ceramic material is chosen for its high electrical insulation

properties, as well as its ability to withstand high temperatures and mechanical stress.

 

The alumina ceramic tube used in vacuum interrupters is typically metallized in order to improve its electrical

conductivity. Metallization involves coating the surface of the ceramic with a thin layer of metal, such as

molybdenum (Mo) or manganese (Mn). This metallized layer helps to create a strong bond between the

ceramic and the metal components within the interrupter, ensuring reliable electrical connections.

 

The metallized tube also plays a crucial role in maintaining a high vacuum seal within the interrupter. By

creating a hermetic seal between the ceramic tube and other components, the metallized layer helps to

prevent air or other contaminants from entering the vacuum chamber. This is essential for ensuring the
