Bullion blocks are an important part of the precious metals refining process.

These blocks are made of a specific composition of metals, such as gold or silver,

that have been melted down and poured into a mold to form a solid block. 

Cupels are small, porous containers made of bone ash that are used to absorb any

impurities in the bullion blocks during the refining process. The bullion blocks are

placed on top of the cupels and heated to high temperatures in a furnace. As the bullion

blocks melt, any impurities are absorbed by the cupels, leaving behind a purer form of the metal.
